HAYATI

Directed by Amoona Abdelwahab. Written by Amoona Abdelwahab and Carlos B. Miller.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of sunny Florida, Hayati is an intimate portrait of Black love, arranged marriage, and the beauty of surrendering to life’s unexpected turns. The story follows Amani, a disciplined and successful baker in her early thirties, who agrees to an arranged marriage with Malik, a charming but uncertain man searching for purpose. Amani has carefully planned every detail of her life, except love. Malik, the only son of a family with a legacy to uphold, is just beginning to find his footing.

As the two navigate a union rooted in tradition but shaped by modern realities, they confront their insecurities, fears, and hopes. Amani must learn to embrace uncertainty and relinquish control, while Malik grapples with the pressure to become the man he’s always been expected to be. Through their journey, Hayati explores themes of self-discovery, emotional vulnerability, and the quiet power of commitment.

Born from a deeply personal place, Hayati marks the feature directorial debut of Amoona Abdelwahab, a Sudanese filmmaker based in West Palm Beach, Florida. Developed alongside producer and co-writer Carlos B. Miller during a time of personal and global upheaval, the film is a celebration of love in all its imperfect forms.

Hayati is a story for anyone who believes in love and especially for those who long to see themselves in it.
